I really want to know the backstory behind the elbow-licking. Like did they realize Alysson has this remarkable talent — I have never heard of anyone who’s able to lick their elbow before! — and write it into the story? Or was it a discovery that came about during the filming of the episode itself? Obviously, these are the real hard-hitting questions. Everything else is just secondary at this point.
Anyway. Diana and Mary are wonderful; I love hearing people talk about the things they’re passionate about, even/especially if I don’t have any real knowledge of what they’re discussing.
But then there’s Jane. I feel like I’m playing this game of “How many conversations can Jane drag Simon’s name into?” I get why she’s doing it, of course, but still. If I were Diana or Mary, I’d be forming my own conclusions right about now.
Overall, this episode (elbow licking aside) felt really awkward to me. Diana and Mary were being playful, but then Jane would say something super serious, and the mood would shift a bit. It’s so distressing to hear that Jane doesn’t really know where her passions lie.
And that’s just how their dynamic works: Jane’s got secrets that she’s not sharing and Diana & Mary are too polite to ask. So they have conversations about topics that are all linked to Jane’s past (and future), but there’s so much that’s being left unsaid.
Or it was just a really cute episode, and I’m overthinking everything. What else is new?
