POLL: What’s Our Next Book?!

I’m sure you saw that one of the options on the Kickstarter was the option to pick our next book. Well! It sold!
And the backer who chose it, Natalie Edmondson, asked if we could let the fan community choose. And of course I said yes! I can’t think of a better way to thank everyone and I’m so touched that Natalie wanted to open it up like this.

Natalie & Kate narrowed down the options and you have four to pick from! You do not have to have pledged to the Kickstarter to vote. We’d love to encourage more viewers to get to know the series & get involved, so spread this around!

Please read the stories & vote below before Friday!

"But if I feel, may I never express?”
Never!” declared Reason.

I groaned under her bitter sternness. Never - never - oh, hard word! This hag, this Reason, would not let me look up, or smile, or hope; she could not rest unless I were altogether crushed, cowed, broken-in, and broken down. According to her, I was born only to work for a piece of bread, to await the pains of death, and steadily through all life to despond. Reason might be right; yet no wonder we are glad at times to defy her, to rush from under her rod and give a truant hour to Imagination - her soft, bright foe, our sweet Help, our divine Hope.

-Villete, Charlotte Bronte

"Graham’s thoughts of me were not entirely those of a frozen indifference, after all. I believe in that goodly mansion, his heart, he kept one little place under the skylights where Lucy might have entertainment, if she chose to call. It was not so handsome as the chambers where he lodged his male friends; it was not like the hall where he accommodated his philanthropy, or the library where he treasured his science, still less did it resemble the pavilion where his marriage feast was splendidly spread; yet, gradually, by long and equal kindness, he proved to me that he kept one little closet, over the door of which was written ‘Lucy’s Room.’ I kept a place for him too — a place of which I never took the measure, either by rule or compass: I think it was like the tent of Peri-Banou. All my life long I carried it folded in the hollow of my hand — yet, released from that hold and constriction, I knew not but its innate capacity for expanse might have magnified it into a tabernacle for a host."
- Charlotte Brontë, Villette (1853)

My email stopped working so I don’t know when/if my Lizzie Bennet DVD set is coming, does anyone know if I have to verify anything or should my DVD set just be delivered?

Nope you don’t have to verify anything. The email just says they’ve shipped, and if you’re in the US there’s a link to track. So it’s not really a big deal.

Y’all.

Y’all.

Look what I found in my mailbox today! And it was after the longest long-ass day ever, too (Wednesdays are always long, but when you’re a church musician/choir member, the Wednesday of Holy Week is just long-ass long).

You just have no idea how much I needed this, especially right now.  I’m in the process of moving my mother from her home of 35 years to live here in my town, which is, well, a bit traumatic for me. It’s the leaving the childhood home forever thing that’s getting to me, and it would’ve made me emotional anyway, but since my dad died unexpectedly in July of 2012, it’s just really hard. I feel like I’m leaving him behind. I know that’s not true, and I know it’s the right thing to do for my mom, But grief isn’t always logical, so…

So to get this, now?

LBD is one of the things that helped me cope with my dad’s death. I remember the day he died, going home from the hospital in shock, going into my childhood bedroom, and having Lizzie be the one thing that grounded me when my entire world had been shattered. I watched episode 33 — “Nope, He Doesn’t Like Me” — which had aired that day, late that night, curled up, broken-hearted. I’m pretty sure it was the only thing that gave me reason to smile that day. I’m pretty sure LBD is the only thing that gave me reason to smile for the next few weeks. So there’s that.

And there’s Mary Kate Wiles and her portrayal of Lydia, and how that made me face my own “Wickham”

LBD was a healing thing for me, in so many ways. And it continues to be a healing thing for me. I will always, always be grateful. It’s definitely part of why I love the characters so much, why I love the series so much.

For those who have received DVDs…

May I ask what the special features are?!

:)

2014 Lizzie Bennet Diaries Calendar

I was originally designing this just for myself, but some people expressed interest in having one for themselves, so here you go! (I really do not think I’m any good at graphic design/photoshop, though, so lower your expectations accordingly.)

You can download the files here from my dropbox, or, if you’re lazy like me, you can order a printed version here. (I haven’t used this website before, but the reviews were good. I’ve ordered one for myself, and I’ll post pictures when it arrives if you want to wait and see how the quality is.)  Enjoy!

Classic Alice is a new web-series about a college student that decides to live her life according to classic literature, for better or worse. Her first book? Crime and Punishment. Well, I think we can all agree that allowing Raskolnikov to make your life decisions might not be the best of ideas! But it makes for a great show, and you can watch the first 6 episodes here:http://bit.ly/classicalice

Now, here is where Alice NEEDS YOUR HELP: In order to keep this amazing series going, the creators have launched a Kickstarter campaign! Every dollar helps so, if you can contribute with just U$1, DO IT. If you can spare U$5, U$10, U$25, that’s great. But if everyone subscribed to this page donates just one dollar to this amazing project, they’ll be able to go beyond their goal by thousands.

So every dollar makes a difference, help out: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/katehackett/classic-alice
